It’s actually surprising that it’s taken beloved geek icon Nathan Fillion this long to be cast in a Marvel movie, but at long last, it looks like his mystery role in next year’s sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy has finally been uncovered.
According to ComicBook.com, some leaked set photos from the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 set reveal Fillion’s role to be Simon Williams a.k.a. Wonder Man. In the Marvel Comics Universe, Williams is a reformed villain who joined the Avengers before eventually retiring to pursue acting. The set photos show Fillion’s face on several mock movie posters, which suggests that Guardians is going to depict Williams’ acting career.
In addition to revealing Fillion’s role in the film, the leaked photos also appear to confirm that a portion of Guardians Vol. 2 will be set on Earth, which should tie in nicely to the film’s subplot regarding Star-Lord’s (Chris Pratt) past and the introduction of his father (all-but-confirmed to be played by Kurt Russell).
At any rate, we’re just curious to see if Fillion’s Wonder Man will live up to his turn as Captain Hammer in Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog. Lines such as “The only doom that’s looming is loving me to death,” will be pretty hard to top!
