Mark Hamill has given his blessing for being digitally recreated in any future Star Wars movies.
Well already I told my family ‘Absolutely – thumbs up!” he said.
“But it is a question of propriety really. I’m sure they had to go to the Cushing estate and get their permission.”
Hamill added that, since he’s very sure Star Wars movies will continue to be made well after his death, he’s happy for Luke Skywalker to be a part of them and even supports the idea of a younger actor getting the role. “You know, it’s amazing to me – George [Lucas] gave them a canvas so large that they’re going to be able to – I mean, the possibilities are infinite,” he said. “So who knows? They also ask me “What young actor do you think could play him? Sky’s the limit. And I’m sure they’re going to keep making these things long after I’m gone.”
As for the possibility of returning in Episode IX, Hamill wouldn’t confirm anything but did mention to IGN that he has an interesting idea for how Luke Skywalker might return post-The Last Jedi.
“You know what I’d love to see?” the actor joked. “A Force Ghost that’s, like, actually frightening. Not somebody that’s beautifully smiling down from the clouds or coming to give exposition – you know, a ghost is scary! But we’ll see. My work here is done.”
