The ultra violent, heavily Bond-influenced British spy film Kingsman: The Secret Service (based on Mark Millar’s comic series of the same name) was one of this year’s most pleasant cinematic surprises, in a year filled with them. While recent reports have indicated that a sequel was in the works, it’s now official, as Kingsman 2 is set for a 2017 release.
ScreenRant is reporting that Kingsman 2 will be arriving June 16th, 2017 and will see the return of director Matthew Vaughn (X-Men: First Class). Filming is expected to start this Spring and in a surprising twist, it looks like Vaughn and his writing partner Jane Goldman are looking for a way to bring back Colin Firth for the sequel, in addition to breakout star Taron Egerton, who played “Eggsy.”
We’re not sure how bringing Firth’s character will work exactly, considering the events of the first film, but his presence would most definitely be welcome if the writers can pull it off, as his chemistry with Egerton was one of the first film’s greatest strengths.
