Warner Bros. has big plans for the DC Extended Universe that go well beyond big-name heroes such as Batman and Superman, as the studio has hired Edge of Tomorrow director Doug Liman to helm Justice League Dark.
JLD is a somewhat recent DC Comics title focused on a group of supernatural heroes that include John Constantine, Deadman, Shade the Changing Man, Zatanna, and Swamp Thing.
The project has actually been in development for several years, with Guillermo del Toro attached to direct. With Liman stepping into the director’s seat, del Toro will now serve as a producer.
In addition to Edge of Tomorrow, Liman is known for his kinetic action filmmaking in hits such as The Bourne Identity and Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Liman was previously attached to direct the X-Men spin-off Gambit for Marvel and 20th Century Fox, but it appears that he is no longer involved with the notoriously troubled production.
There is currently no expected release date for Justice League Dark
