Jeffrey Dean Morgan Teases Possible Batman Role In FLASHPOINT Movie

Among the many Warner Bros. announcements at San Diego Comic-Con this past weekend was the news that the upcoming Flash movie would be an adaptation of the popular Flashpoint DC Comics arc. Naturally, this raised the question among fans whether Jeffrey Dean Morgan could potentially reprise his role as Batman’s father Thomas Wayne in the film and Morgan has only added fuel to the fire with the following tweet:

For context, Morgan and his Walking Dead co-star Lauren Cohan played Thomas and Martha Wayne in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Why is this significant? Well, in the Flashpoint story, Barry Allen travels back in time to save his mother but in doing so, he alters the world’s timeline and creates an alternate timeline in which the state of the DC Universe is much different than the one he’s used to. In this timeline, Bruce Wayne is the one who is killed in Crime Alley, prompting his father Thomas Wayne to become a much more violent, darker Batman, whilst his mother Martha is driven mad by the whole ordeal and becomes that universe’s version of the Joker.

While it hasn’t been confirmed one way or the other whether Thomas Wayne will appear in Flashpoint (though if DC is doing a proper adaptation, it’s safe to assume that he will be), Morgan seems game for returning. In fact, he addressed the question at Walker Stalker Con earlier this year:

“Zack [Snyder] and I go back to Watchmen days,” Morgan said. “So I’ve got a little bit of relationship with the DC losers. He called me a year before we shot that…I met Lauren. It was great. I still see Lauren. It was great and yeah, is there another plan for that Thomas Wayne character? We’ll see. I don’t know. I would love to be the dark Batman. That’s the darkest Batman there is. God knows I embrace the darkness.”

Flashpoint is currently slated for a 2020 release date.
