We’ve known for some time that Warner Bros. has been planning multiple Joker movies but it’s all been a little difficult to keep track of. Even Jared Leto, who played the Crown Prince of Crime most recently in 2016’s Suicide Squad, admitted last year that he was unsure what WB was up to when it came to the DC villain. However, it looks like those plans are finally starting to become more focused, as Leto is reportedly set to reprise the role in a standalone Joker movie.
According to sources from Variety, Leto will star and serve as an executive producer for the upcoming project that will further explore the actor’s version of eccentric clown. It’s unclear if Harley Quinn will be involved or not, as Margot Robbie is already set to star in the spinoff Birds of Prey, which recently added Cathy Yan as director. It’s safe to assume that both actors will return for Suicide Squad 2, whenever that comes out.
“Suicide Squad Spinoff Joker Movie” is not to be confused with the Joker origin story movie being developed by director Todd Phillips, in which Joaquin Phoenix and Leonardo DiCaprio are being eyed for the lead role (which makes no sense given that both actors are only three years younger than Leto … unless Phillips’ film has no connection to the Leto one. Like I said, it’s all very confusing).
