While speaking with Screen Rant about the upcoming release of Jumanji: The Next Level, which hits theatres on December 4, 2019, Black revealed that if he were to join the MCU, the characters he’d most like to play would be either The Thing or Kingpin:
“Oh, it’d be fun to play like an evil dude, like the Kingpin. Yeah. I don’t know. Maybe the Thing? It’d be rad to be that rock dude from the Fantastic Four.”
Personally, we can’t really picture him playing Kingpin. We’re big fans of Black’s work, but he’s far too short for the role and if we’re being really honest, he doesn’t have the range it would take to pull off such a cruel and ruthless crime boss. That said, if Marvel is looking, Vincent D’Onofrio deserves some serious consideration. His portrayal of Wilson Fisk in Netflix’s Daredevil series was one of the best aspects of the show and considering how much he enjoyed playing the supervillain, if Marvel called, he’d answer.Source: Screenshot via Sony Pictures
As for Black playing The Thing, we have no issue with it. We already know Marvel Studios plans to make a Fantastic Four movie and if the School of Rock actor is interested, Marvel should listen. Benjamin Grimm is a gruff and stubborn kind of guy, but he’s also a kind-hearted and brave individual, all qualities we believe Jack has in spades. Now, we’re not saying it wouldn’t take some convincing on Marvel’s behalf, but if they were to cast John Krasinski as Mr. Fantastic, his real-life wife Emily Blunt as Sue Storm, Zac Efron as the Human Torch, and Black as the Thing, we’d totally watch it. Having said that, the problem with the Fantastic Four movies has always been the script, so Kevin Feige can find the person to helm the project, the once-beloved superhero team will finally get a decent movie and the respect they deserve.Source: Screenshot via Marvel Comics
