J.K. Simmons To Play Commissioner Gordon in ‘Justice League’

Academy Award-winner J.K. Simmons has jumped ship from Marvel to DC.

The actor, who played the cigar-chomping newspaper boss J. Jonah Jameson in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, will now be playing another grizzled comic character, only this time it’s on the DC side. Sources close to the production have confirmed that Simmons will play Batman ally Commissioner James Gordon – previously played by Gary Oldman in the Dark Knight trilogy – alongside Ben Affleck’s Batman in the upcoming Justice League movie.

Does this surprising news mean that we’ll never get to see Simmons step back into Jamesons’s shoes? The actor made comments last week that he hasn’t ruled that possibility out, so it’s still a possibility that Simmons could play characters on both sides. Whether that happens or not, it will be interesting to see what Simmons brings to the table for Gordon. With his character acting abilities, he’s sure to put his own unique spin on the role.
