J.J. Abrams Will Write And Direct ‘Star Wars Episode IX’

Star Wars: Episode IX has found a new director, as reports that J.J. Abrams, the filmmaker who helped launch a new era of Star Wars films with Star Wars: The Force Awakens in 2015, will helm the upcoming franchise installment, thus replacing departing director Colin Trevorrow.

Additionally, Abrams will co-write the film alongside Chris Terrio (Argo, Justice League), and also serve as producer with Kathleen Kennedy, Michelle Rejwan, Bad Robot, and Lucasfilm.

“With The Force Awakens, J.J. delivered everything we could have possibly hoped for, and I am so excited that he is coming back to close out this trilogy,” said Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy.

Star Wars: Episode IX is still slated for release on May 24, 2019.
