Incredibles 2 continued its box office streak this weekend, surpassing the original 2004 film in the process.
Disney-Pixar’s animated sequel has grossed an estimated $648.6 million worldwide (figures courtesy of Box Office Mojo), beating out the first Incredibles’ $633 million lifetime earnings. Even when adusting for inflation, Incredibles 2 has grossed more domestically ($440.6 million) than the original film’s $384.9 million earnings.
Incredibles 2 is now the third highest-grossing film of the year worldwide, trailing behind Avengers: Infinity War ($2.03 billion) and Black Panther ($1.34 billion). It’s also the second-highest grossing Pixar film of all time behind Finding Dory, which managed to cross the $1 billion mark back in 2016.
Elsewhere, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom continued its domination at the top of the box office charts and now sits just shy of the $1 billion mark at $934 million worldwide. The film still has a ways to go to match the original Jurassic World’s $1.67 billion gross but considering it hasn’t even been on the market for two weeks yet, there’s a very good chance it will.
Here were the top 10 highest-grossing films domestically for the July 1 weekend, according to Box Office Mojo:
- Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom – $60.9 million
- Incredibles 2 – $46.4 million
- Sicario: Day of the Soldado – $19 million
- Uncle Drew – $15.2 million
- Ocean’s 8 – $8.3 million
- Tag $5.8 million
- Deadpool 2 – $3.5 million
- Sanju – $2.7 million
- Solo: A Star Wars Story $2.6 million
