While Hugh Jackman’s portrayal of Wolverine has always walked right on the line of violence and foul language, but has historically been kept clean enough for the X-Men movies to get their much desired PG-13 ratings. However, when Logan comes out next year, fans will finally see a much more aggressive and angry Wolverine, as Fox has finally been convinced to let it have an R-rating after the smash success of Deadpool in 2016.
Director James Mangold actually shot tamer versions of many scenes, in case Fox wouldn’t go for the harder rating. But reports from initial screenings suggest that there will be plenty of violence and cursing to satisfy even the most hardcore Wolverine fans. Interestingly enough, it wasn’t just the massive box office success of Deadpool that convinced Fox to allow Mangold to make Logan for an adult audience. According to Eric Vespe of AintItCool.com, Jackman actually negotiated a lower salary if Fox would let them make a movie that was rated R.
Mangold said that Hugh Jackman took a salary cut because he wanted to do an R-rated movie.

We’re pretty excited for Logan. Jackman has really taken one of the most iconic comic book characters of all-time and made it his own in ways that few others ever have. We’ll be sad to see him finally hang up the adamantium claws after this one.
