In a recent interview with Discussing Film, the writer of the much-loved action series The Equalizer, Richard Wenk announced some details about an upcoming Universal Soldier project he’s been working on with the help of producers Todd Black and Jason Blumenthal.
He said…
I will say that I’m just finishing up a re-imagining – let’s be clear about this it’s not a remake and it is not a redo – but it is a re-imagining of a movie called Universal Soldier…very much like The Equalizer, it’s the title that inspired me and not the movies…I’m just about to finish [the script] and turn it in this week.
Wenk seems to be aware that there was some mixed reception for some of the past entries into the franchise, two standalone movies were released in 1998 without any of the original cast and crew, then a year later Jean Claude returned to the role in Universal Soldier: The Return.
