‘Doctor Strange’ Director Explains Why The Fantastic Four Need To Enter The MCU

While many Marvel characters have been brought under the Marvel Cinematic Universe banner in recent years (heck, we never thought we’d see an Ant-Man movie, let alone a sequel), there are still many more that have not. “Which character do you want to see in the MCU?” has become a common question to ask those who work on Marvel’s movies and that’s exactly the question Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson was asked in a recent interview.

Here’s what Derrickson told Screen Rant when pressed on the matter:

“I mean, there’s a lot of discussion about Moon Knight maybe coming into the MCU. I think that’s a good idea. I dunno…Actually, scratch that answer. Here’s my answer.

My answer is this: I still have hope that Fantastic Four can be properly brought into the MCU because a lot of Doctor Strange – that’s the comment I read the most during that. I love those characters and I think that they still deserve another shot at finding a true home in the MCU. I still have hope for that. That’s my honest answer.”

Given that Marvel still holds the rights for Moon Knight, it’s only a matter of time before the mystical superhero makes his way to the MCU, The Fantastic Four, on the other hand, are a much trickier proposition with Fox still retaining the film rights. Via

Still, the proposition of the Fantastic Four reverting back to Marvel has looked more and more likely in recent years, especially after the terrible reboot released in 2015 that forced Fox to abandon its plans for an X-Men/Fantastic Four crossover and possibly even killed the career of up-and-coming filmmaker Josh Trank. Marvel’s First Family have connections to pretty much every major character in the MCU, so getting the rights back arguably should be a top priority for Marvel at this point. Either that or give us a Moon Knight TV series already!
