Captain America: Civil War

Did ‘Captain America: Civil War’ Beat ‘Batman V Superman’s Opening Box Office Numbers?

Although Captain America: Civil War definitely has Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice beat when it comes to review scores, Marvel’s latest couldn’t quite match up to the combined draw of the Caped Crusader and the Man of Steel in terms of opening night box office numbers.

Civil War took in $25 million in North America Thursday night, which is a huge improvement over Captain America: The Winter Soldier’s 10.2 million debut back in April 2014. As respectable as that number is, it doesn’t quite match up to Batman v Superman’s 27.7 million Thursday opening earlier this year.

Still, there’s little reason to be worried about Civil War’s chances at the box office, as the film has already brought in almost $300 million worldwide and is on track for a $1.4 billion haul according to The Hollywood Reporter, which would put it well ahead of Batman v Superman, which will not crack the $1 billion mark. There’s little doubt that Civil War has huge legs, but Warner Bros. is likely happy that they can claim this victory against Marvel all the same.
