If you saw Captain America: Civil War, you know that the chances of seeing the villain Crossbones turn up again in the Marvel Cinematic Universe are pretty much slim-to-none, as the character isn’t exactly whole anymore. But is this really the last we’ll see of him?
In a recent interview, Frank Grillo not so subtlety hinted that his character’s time may not be over, despite the fact that he gets blown up in the opening scene of Civil War. “You think he dies, don’t you?” Grillo replied when asked about his character’s fate on ABC News this week while promoting his new film, The Purge: Election Year. “Did you see the body? What did you see? That happened last time [in The Winter Soldier]. I’m not saying anything except that … You didn’t see a body.”
Grillo’s comments sure seem to leave to door open for a Crossbones return, something that many fans would surely welcome given how excellent the actor has been in the role so far. Still, Marvel is going to have a tough time explaining how a character somehow survived being blown to smithereens, if and when they do bring him back. In the meantime, you know what to do: start re-watching that Civil War scene over and over to look for possible evidence of Crossbones’s survival. It’s your duty as an American (yes, we realize that Independence Day was yesterday).
