Yahoo! Movies recently got a chance to talk to former Batman Christian Bale, who shared some thoughts about his time under the cowl in Christopher Nolan’s acclaimed Dark Knight trilogy. As it turns out, Bale has some regrets when it comes to his performance.
“I didn’t quite manage what I hoped I would throughout the trilogy,” said Bale. “Chris [Nolan] did, but my own sense of self is like, ‘I didn’t quite nail it.'”
The main reason for Bale’s sense of disappointment lies with Heath Ledger’s Oscar-winning performance as the Joker, as Bale notes that the late actor’s take on that character outclassed what he was doing with Batman, jokingly telling Yahoo! that: “Heath turned up, and just kind of completely ruined all my plans. Because I went, “He’s so much more interesting than me and what I’m doing.” Bale stated that he would have liked to take Batman in a much darker and twisted direction.
Bale was also asked whether or not he would ever want to reprise the role, but Bale wasn’t having any of it: “We did our thing, it’s done, you know? I’ve got nothing else to offer it.”
We’ll get to see if Ben Affleck can succeed where Christian Bale failed when Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters on March 25.
