To say that Avengers: Infinity War will be Marvel’s most ambitious film yet would be a vast understatement; the 2018 film is not only set to pit the Avengers against the Mad Titan Thanos for the first time, but also reportedly involves a whopping cast list of 67 characters.
While we know that most, if not all, of the main players like Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, etc.) will be there, many have wondered if that cast number includes characters who have yet to make it to the movies, most notably the heroes that make up the Defenders in Marvel’s Netflix arm. Nothing has been confirmed on that front yet, but a comment made by Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige in a recent interview with IGN could signal that the likes of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist could end up being involved in some way.
Here’s what Feige had to say:
“We will be intercutting a lot of stories in that movie in a lot of different locales, as it sort of is in the Avengers movies as well; who is facing off against who. In this movie, it’s going to be fun to mix that up. One of the things that’s great about the Infinity Gauntlet is everybody tried to go up against Thanos whether they were god-like powers or not, because that’s what Avengers do. The fun about those two movies that we’re doing essentially at the same time is everybody’s there.”
When pressed if his “everybody” comment included TV characters as well, Feige coyly responded with “Spoilers!” Admittedly, this is not much to go on but the fact that Feige didn’t outright refute the idea suggests that there is a chance we’ll see the likes of the Defenders in Infinity War. They probably won’t have much of a role, but even just a quick cameo appearance would be enough to help Marvel’s movie and TV divisions — which are technically all part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe — feel firmly connected for the first time.
