“Foxcatcher” calls itself a biographical true crime drama; however, many of the events in the film are actually fictitious. Mark Schultz, whose life is depicted in the film, has railed against director Bennett Miller for his portrayal of his character and the events that took place multiple times. If we’re to listen to him, it looks as though Bennett changed a number of details for dramatic effect. Since we’ve already seen the Hollywood version of what happened when the Schultz brothers went to work for the eccentric millionaire John du Pont, let’s take a look at what was fictionalized in “Foxcatcher.”

Mark Schultz didn’t immediately move to Foxcatcher Farm. First John du Pont offered him a job helping to coach a team at Villanova University, so Schultz took the job and moved into an apartment near campus. Du Pont later fired him from Villanova, but invited him to move to Foxcatcher estate.
