Movies are never totally based on true stories. Writers and directors are at liberty to change whatever they see fit to make the story more compelling. As a result, we are more or less left with a story that is just as fictitious as other works of fiction that are not based on a real event or person. We’re looking to find out what is fact and what is fiction in “American Sniper.” The story is based on Navy SEAL Chris Kyle’s memoir of the same name and something tells us that the story that we saw on the big screen is just as much fact as it is fiction. Here are 7 false facts from the Academy Award-winning film.

In the film, Chris Kyle – who is played by Bradley Cooper – says that he is 30 when he enlists in the U.S. Navy; however, in the memoir, he says that he reported for basic training in 1999. He was born in 1974, so he was really 25-years-old.
