In the 1976 film Taxi Driver, the character of Travis Bickle, played by actor Robert De Niro, famously takes a first date to a porno movie. The date ends quickly. And that awkward incident is a reminder that movie dates can be tricky at the best of times. Going to the movies on a first date can be especially tricky. You want to see a movie that will leave both parties in a good and energetic mood with lots of positive energy. However, many people make the mistake of seeing the wrong movie on a date and it can potentially ruin a budding relationship. Whether the movie is too violent, contains too much graphic sex, or just a depressing ending, taking a date to the wrong type of film on a date can have disastrous consequences. So, in an effort to be helpful, here are six movies to avoid on a first date.
6. Leaving Las Vegas (1995)
Billed as a love story between the two main characters, played by actors Nicolas Cage and Elizabeth Shue, Leaving Las Vegas is actually a very depressing meditation on alcoholism and suicide. And while the two main actors have great chemistry, the movie contains one heartwrenching scene after another leading up to an incredibly sad and depressing ending. The 1995 film, directed by Mike Figgis, basically involves watching the character played by Nicolas Cage drink himself to death as a hooker played by Elizabeth Shue watches helplessly and tries in vain to save him. Engrossing and well-made, this movie is nevertheless a total downer for a first date. Safe to say that nobody will want to grab a drink after seeing this movie.
