It looks like Harley Quinn may not be the only Suicide Squad member getting her own spin-off movie.
According to a source at We Got This Covered, Jared Leto’s The Joker and Jai Courtney’s Captain Boomerang could be the stars of their very own spin-offs if Suicide Squad proves successful:
“I’ve heard more than a few talks of giving some of the other Task Force X members their own spinoffs, and like the Harley Quinn one, these films would open the door for a ton of new DC characters to show up.
“The Joker is a definite possibility for a spinoff, and Jared [Leto] seems up for it from what I’ve been told. They’re also really hot on Jai Courtney’s character Boomerang right now. Nothing’s set in stone yet, but you’re definitely going to be seeing a lot more of these guys in the years to come.”
We would have pegged Will Smith’s Deadshot as the obvious choice for a spin-off, but it’s interesting to see that Warner Bros. is potentially going in a different direction. The Joker is one of the most popular characters in all of comics, so there’s little doubt that a solo film devoted to the Clown Prince of Crime would be successful (although a film where he’s the hero sounds more than a little problematic). We’re interested to see what Jai Courtney brings to the table with Captain Boomerang, as he must have a standout performance in Suicide Squad to spark discussion of a potential spin-off.
Suicide Squad hits theaters Aug. 5.
