Avengers: Infinity War is one of the most anticipated movies of 2018 and with a cast of over 70 heroes and villains, is set to be the biggest superhero movie ever made. It’s fitting that Infinity War is set to arrive almost a decade to the day that the first Iron Man was released in theaters, as Marvel has spent the last 10 years building its cinematic universe into one of the most successful movie franchises in history and it’s all been leading up to this moment.
This is the first Marvel movie to unite all of its franchises together at the same time, as the Guardians of the Galaxy will be joining the Avengers for the first time on screen. With so many possibilities for how things will play out (and how many different characters could be killed off), it’s difficult to not have a number of burning questions going into Infinity War. Here are a dozen of them that we hope the film will answer when it storms into theaters this May!
12. Which Side Will Loki Be On (And Will He Even Survive)?
It’s difficult to gauge how much of a role Loki will play in Avengers: Infinity War, but the fact that he’s even in the movie at all is something to be thankful for. Alongside actors like Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, and Chris Evans, Tom Hiddleston has long been a Marvel Cinematic Universe MVP, with his God of Mischief constantly flipping between outright villain to mischievous antihero. Which begs the question: which Loki will we get in Infinity War? Loki’s only appearance so far in the film’s marketing shows him holding out the Tesseract, surrounded by a number of fallen bodies. The safe assumption here is that this scene comes during Thanos’ attack on the Asgardian ship, which leaves Thor defeated and stranded in space, where he’s eventually picked up by the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Perhaps Loki is giving Thanos the Tessaract as a way of putting an end to the bloodshed? Or could Loki be making a self-serving play here? After all, he did work for Thanos once before, so it’s not a stretch to assume that he’d do so again, especially when the alternative is certain death. Whatever happens, it’s hard not to feel like this could be Tom Hiddleston’s final appearance in the MCU, as having Thanos put Loki out of the game early would be an effective way to raise the stakes and broadcast that Marvel is playing for keeps with this movie.
