The Nintendo Switch Will NOT Have Virtual Console At Launch

Nintendo has officially confirmed that the Switch, which launches next Friday, will not offer Virtual Console support at launch.

“Virtual Console games will not be available on Nintendo Switch at launch,” the company said in a press release. “We will share more information in the future.”

While the Switch will no doubt include Nintendo’s Virtual Console Service, originally launched on the Nintendo Wii back in 2006, at some point, this news will undoubtedly disappoint those who were hoping to download some of the company’s classic games onto the Switch to help fill in the gaps in the console’s paltry launch lineup (in other words, something to play when they’ve finished with Zelda).

Other details contained within the press release include confirmation that FAST RMX and Shovel Knight will both be available alongside the Switch on March 3, as well as the news tha users will be able to transfer funds from other Nintendo devices. Doing so will require linking your “Nintendo Network ID and Nintendo Account and then [your] Nintendo Account to [your] Nintendo Switch system.”
