Considering hatching Pokemon eggs is one of the key parts of the Pokemon Go mobile augmented reality game, it seemed obvious that there would be some sort of special event for Easter, right? After all, the holiday is typically associated with children having egg hunts, so it all makes sense.
Niantic waited until the last minute to announce it, but for one week (starting 1:00 p.m. Pacific Time on April 13), Pokemon Go trainers will get some added bonuses from hatching eggs. The game will increase the variety of Pokemon found in 2 km eggs, which typically house very common creatures. While Niantic didn’t specify which Pokemon would be switching to the smaller distance eggs, it’s possible some of the rarer Pokemon (Snorlax, Aerodactyl, Larvitar, etc) might now be hatchable with much less walking.
Additionally, egg hatches will come with more candy. They don’t say whether it’s double candy, like previous events, just “more.”
The big bonus for hardcore Pokemon Go grinders, though, is that the entire week will feature Double XP. As seen with previous events, popping a Lucky Egg during a Double XP event will actually net players 4X the XP, great for powering through those levels. To make this even easier, Niantic is cutting the price of Lucky Eggs in half for the week, with a single Lucky Egg now costing just 40 Pokecoins.
Happy Easter, trainers!
