‘No Man’s Sky’ Is So Bad That Sony and Steam Are Offering Unprecedented Refunds

No Man’s Sky was one of the most hyped video game releases of the year. Unfortunately, there wasn’t a lot of steak to go with all that sizzle once the thing actually hit stores. Many gamers felt not only let down, but openly lied to by the developers when it came to missing features or broken promises.

The outrage from the gaming community has prompted three of the biggest game stores — Steam, Sony’s digital PlayStation Store, and Amazon — too offer full refunds for No Man’s Sky, regardless of how many hours the player has put in.

Steam typically offers refunds for games that have been played for less than two hours. Sony and Amazon usually have a “all sales are final” stance on digital purchases, but they are softening their position in this unique case. That’s bad news for developer Hello Games, who have been average daily users plummet since the game was released a few weeks ago.

They are desperately working to patch the game and add new features, although those may come in the form of paid DLC. However, with a laundry list of broken promises already, it will be hard for gamers to put their trust (and patience) in Hello Games, especially when they can now just get their money back and move on.

Update: Steam has released a statement saying that their standard return policy applies to No Man’s Sky. Yet people have been claiming they received refunds outside of the two-hour window, so your mileage may vary.
