You’d be forgiven for not being aware of the upcoming Mad Max game being developed by Avalanche Studios (the team behind the delightfully-chaotic Just Cause series), as George Miller’s blockbuster film Fury Road has stolen most of the spotlight this year. Judging by this new trailer though, it looks like Fury Road‘s outstanding quality may just be rubbing off on the game as well.
Mad Max isn’t a movie-tie-in game, so it will be telling a separate story with a whole new cast of characters. However, the trailer does mention “War Boys” and “Gas Town”, so it’s likely that Max (not based on Tom Hardy’s portrayal) will encounter some familiar faces along the way.
In addition to the open world car combat hijinks, the most exciting part of the game looks to be an expansion of the desolate, yet delightfully crazy post-apocalyptic world that Max inhabits. Fury Road only hinted at the lands beyond Immortan Joe’s Citadel, so it will interesting to see what new locations the game takes us.
Mad Max is coming to PlayStation 4, Windows PC, and Xbox One on September 1st.
