It’s been 25 years since the release of 1993’s seminal 2-on-2 basketball arcade game NBA Jam and Tim Kitzrow — the voice behind the series — is working with Microsoft on reviving the series to celebrate this milestone.
This news comes by way of ESPN, with Kitzrow telling the outlet that “there is movement in the works to get [a revival] done,” confirming he is working with Microsoft and wants to produce a new game.
This would mark the second time NBA Jam has been resurrected, with EA having previously released a reboot in 2010. The game earned generally positive reviews and even involved original lead designer and programmer Mark Turnell, but a sequel was never produced.
Turnell is not involved in the current revival attempt, although he’s optimistic about it and is quoted as saying that “there’s so much more to be done,” as”over-the-top NBA action with an official license” is an “untapped category.”
Nothing is official yet when it comes to an NBA Jam 25th anniversary release but we’ll keep you updated if any news comes along.
