The Take-Two Interactive spiritual successor to the NBA Jam, NBA 2K Playgrounds will arrive on October 16, 2018, for the PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC for $29.99.
Tuesday morning’s press release from Take-Two Interactive outlines the games latest additions.
NBA 2K Playgrounds 2 will feature Julius Erving, Kevin Garnett, Karl-Anthony Towns and Jayson Tatum on the cover. More than 300 players will be available at launch, and that includes Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
Another 200 players will be added in updates after the initial release.
There are 10 new playgrounds from around the world. Washington D.C., St. Louis, Seoul, Korea, and Australia will all be represented. New courts will be added after the game’s release as well.
The NBA Playgrounds series is modeled after the old school NBA Jam games that feature two-on-two arcade hoops action. The first version released last year in May and was developed by Saber and published by Mad Dog Games. Earlier this year, it was announced that 2K had stepped in to acquire the rights to publish the sequel, the game has experienced some delays and will hopefully be more polished than last year’s game.
