Although this one was leaked before Ubisoft could officially announce anything, we now have confirmation that the next entry in the Far Cry series will indeed be called Far Cry Primal and will be available February 23, 2016 for PS4 and Xbox One, with a PC release to follow in March.
Veering way off course from recent games in the series, Primal is set 10,000 BC and follows Takkar, “a seasoned hunter and the last surviving member of his hunting group.” It looks like the game will focus heavily on Far Cry’s popular hunting mechanics, as Takkar will be able to, “craft weapons and tools partly from the bones of slain beasts, hunt for food, master fire, fend off fierce predators and face off against other tribes to conquer Oros [the fictional location in which the game is set].”
While it’s still unknown at this point whether Far Cry Primal is a full-length title in the vein of Far Cry 3 and 4 or a smaller spin-off similar to Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, it’s refreshing to see Ubisoft go in a pretty bold direction with the next entry in such a big franchise. Hopefully, the game will fully embrace its historical setting and not have its cast of characters speaking perfect 21st Century English with American accents. It’s caveman speak or bust on this one!
The announcement also came with a debut trailer, which can be viewed below:
