Sony essentially just had their second E3 of the year, bringing out the big guns for its Paris Games Week showcase. Alongside new trailers for upcoming heavy-hitters such as God of War and Spider-Man, Sony also threw in some surprises, including the unexpected sequel announcement to a popular indie title and a truly harrowing new look at one of the PS4’s biggest upcoming exclusives.
I’ve rounded up every big PS4 trailer/announcement Sony made at the show, but have also highlighted the ones I think made the biggest impact. With all the attention Nintendo has been getting thanks to the Switch’s strong showing as of late, it’s nice to see Sony come out and remind us that they have arguably the strongest lineup of upcoming games out of anyone. Let’s dive in:
New Trailer For The Last Of Us Part II
Sony had a lot of trailers to show off at their conference, including a shocking preview for The Last of Us Part 2. Seriously, it’s incredible that Sony actually gave the go-ahead on using this footage for a conference, as it’s just absolutely brutal. The trailer depicts some sort of new religious cult attempting to hang a female prisoner, which is hard enough to watch, but then we also see another woman get one of her arms shattered by a hammer.
According to a tweet from Naughty Dog, the woman who was nearly hanged is being played by Laura Bailey, but the developer is notably keeping her name under wraps right now. Bailey had a prominent role as Nadine Ross in both Uncharted 4 and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, so there’s a very good chance that this new character plays a prominent role in the game. There’s no sign of Joel or Ellie though, and we still don’t have a release date, but at least this trailer illustrates that Naughty Dog isn’t resting on its laurels with this much-anticipated sequel.
