Pokémon Go has been out for months now but in that time, nobody has been able to find Ditto because he simply wasn’t in the game. That appears to have finally changed, as numerous players are reporting that they have captured the adorable shape-shifting Pokémon.
As pointed out by Paul Tassi over at Forbes, Ditto isn’t showing up in the wild as himself, but rather disguised as other Pokémon, meaning that you won’t know if you’ve caught one until after he’s transformed back into his true form. Tassi also reports that common Pokémon such as Rattata, Pidgey, Spearows, and Magikarp are the ones most often revealing themselves to be Ditto, which makes sense considering these are the Pokémon players catch more than any others.
If you’ve caught a Ditto, you’ll be treated to a short cutscene that shows Ditto revealing himself, but it’s also possible to get one without realizing it if you set your phone down after catching a Pokémon in a Pokéball. In battle, Ditto will copy the look and moves of whatever Pokemon you’re facing.
Better start stocking up on Pokeballs because it’s time to start catching every Pidgey and Rattata you come across!
