The previous console generation was notable, among other things, for introducing us to HD remasters: upscaled versions of older games that took advantage of the increased capabilities of newer machines like the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. Now we’re seeing the same thing happen on new consoles, which seems curious considering these games are already in high definition. That being said, some recent remastered editions, such as The Last of Us: Remastered and Grand Theft Auto V, came with some noticeable enhancements and are more than worth the price of a double dip. While it feels like practically every notable game from the last generation is getting a re-release (gotta pad out those release schedules somehow), there are still a good number that haven’t been given the redo treatment. While it’s still unclear whether we really need new editions of these games, we wouldn’t say no to seeing remastered versions of these 10 last-gen classics.
10. Dead Space Trilogy
The prospect of a 4th Dead Space game remains unknown (publisher EA infamously shut down production on the game after Dead Space 3 failed to sell enough copies) and as a result, the series’ absence is notable within the games market. The original Dead Space was a breath of fresh air to the survival horror genre and its sequel was even better. Admittedly, Dead Space 3 faltered significantly, but it was a still a solid game in its own right. While EA continues to keep the franchise on ice, they might as well go ahead and remaster the Dead Space trilogy for new consoles. Many gamers likely missed out on the terrifying conflict between Isaac Clarke and the monstrous Necromorphs, so putting the games together in a shinier package at an attractive price could be a good way to renew interest in the series…and hopefully spur production on a new title.
