Captain America

Right-Wing Conservatives Are Grumpy About The New Captain America

Who could be more American than Captain America? After all, he’s an American superhero that wears America’s colors, has helped America fight in WWII, and his name is freaking Captain America! Apple pie isn’t even that American.

But things are changing.

In the Marvel Comics universe, you may not recognize the new Captain America. Gone is the old super soldier Steve Rodgers. He has been replaced by Sam Wilson, who was formally The Falcon. In a weird combination of both characters, he still uses wings and has a pet Falcon, but also sports the star and the shield that Captain America has become famous for.

Wilson’s version of the Captain has recently taken a different turn, causing some actual real life American conservatives to get their undies in a knot over this fictional character. What’s the problem? Well, in Sam Wilson: Captain America #1, Captain America announces that he is cutting ties with both SHIELD and the U.S. government as a result of some of their shady actions. Instead, he will fight for the regular American citizen and uphold the constitution. So what’s the big deal?

The Sons of the Serpent are now Captain America’s main enemy. They are a conservative hate that may remind you of group like the Ku Klux Klan or the Westboro Baptist Church — their version of America is nice and white and Christian. No Mexicans or Muslims allowed. So when Captain America stands up to them on behalf of ALL Americans, he is immediately painted as a left-wing socialist by the people who think immigration is ruining the country (example A: Donald Trump, presidential candidate).

The ironic part of this video is when the blond in the middle proclaims, “keep politics out of comic books!” Captain America made his debut as a character by punching Adolf Hitler in the face. He’s literally been political since the day he was first drawn, back in 1940, before any of these idiots from Fox News even knew what a comic book was.
