Toyota Recalls Scion FR-S For Key Interlock Issue

Toyota has announced a safety recall of approximately 26,000 Scion FR-S vehicles from the 2013-2016 model years. In some of the affected vehicles, connectors for the automatic transmission key interlock may not have been connected during the pre-delivery service. As a result of this, it’s possible for drivers to remove the key from the ignition when the vehicle is in gear positions other than “Park,” which could increase the risk of vehicle rollaway or a crash. Toyota’s announcement did not mention any injuries or deaths related to the issue.

Owners of vehicles included in the recall will be notified via mail in early March, at which point they will be instructed to return the vehicle to a Toyota dealer to have the key interlock function inspected. If the issue is present, the dealer will connect the delivery mode connectors at no cost to the customer.
