Mercedes-Benz To Reveal Pickup Concept By End Of 2016

Mercedes-Benz has been hinting for many months that they would soon be entering the pickup truck segment, but the latest reports indicate that the vehicle could be coming to market sooner than later. Mercedes vans CEO, Volker Mornhinweg, recently spoke with Auto Express and indicated that the company would be launching a pickup by the end of 2017 in order to compete with rival vehicles, such as the Volkswagen Amarok.

A concept version of the model—which many speculate will be called the X-Class—is set to reveal before the end of the year, likely at the Paris Motor Show in October of 2016. Based on the previously released official sketch, we can expect it will share design similarities with Mercedes’ SUV lineup, including a wide three-bar grille, sleek headlamps and flared front fenders.

The pickup offering comes as part of a collaboration with Renault-Nissan Alliance, and will share its platform with the NP300 Navara, which Nissan currently manufactures for Europe and other markets.
